BEST OIL COMPANY was founded in 1939 in Cloquet Minnesota by RW Lindholm. The primary business then was supplying service stations with gasoline and homes with heating oil. Geographically, Best Oil operates north to the Canadian border, east to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, west into Minnesota’s Iron Range and south of the Twin Cities and into Wisconsin. In 1958, the company constructed the worlds only Frank Lloyd Wright designed service station. This station, which was part of Wrights Utopian Broadacre City, is still operating as a full service repair and gasoline facility. It was placed on the National Registry of Historic Places in 1985.
The driving force behind the Best Oil Company philosophy is its concern with people. The employees of all three divisions strive to provide exceptional customer service. Maintaining the appearance of all locations, coupled with outstanding customer service are the key points of differentiation from the competition. Beyond customer service, Best Oil Company maintains its people orientation with its employees by working hard to be a good employer. This involves having an excellent benefit program that includes an Employee Assistance Program (EAP), AFLAC affiliation and a HRA health program that has successfully contained costs to employees while maintaining excellent coverage. In order to account for a wide variety of needs and goals, Best Oil offers both a profit sharing and a 401K investment plan.
Along with the benefit programs, Best Oil continues to focus on its employees by stressing training, career ladders that emphasize promotion from within, and open communication throughout all levels of the company. This orientation toward customers and employees also means keeping all locations and equipment of the company clean and fresh. This translates into a safe and pleasant experience for everyone and is crucial as Best Oil Company strives to prosper and to be an outstanding corporate citizen in all of the communities it serves.
